Who’s Got Questions?

I’ve always been told that if we have a question, someone else probably has the same one—so ask away. Estate planning comes with a whole host of questions, no matter where you are in the process. Navigating it on your own can feel like a lot. My team and I are here to walk you through the steps and show you how to get started.
This entire issue is designed to help. Take a look at the FAQs. Then download our estate planning workbook or request a physical copy from our office. You can also watch our on-demand webinars. Best of all, these are free and available at any time.
Inside this issue, you will also read about the gift from the estate of Patrick F. Cadigan and the remarkable surprise bequest from John T. Hayden. And if you’re ever wondering if your contribution is “big enough” to matter at BC, guess what? The smallest bequest gift to Soaring Higher: the Campaign for Boston College was just $500, and it counts as much as any other. Every gift to BC has an impact.
Whatever question brought you here, I hope it moves you to take the next step. Reach us at 877-304-SHAW or giftplanning@bc.edu.
Sincerely,
Executive Director of Gift Planning
and Senior Philanthropic Advisor

End-of-Year Giving
End-of-year gifts can create valuable tax benefits for you and your family while making a lasting impact at Boston College.
Here are some tips to keep in mind.
- Your gift to BC before December 31 could mean an income tax deduction this taxable year. You may also reduce the taxable portion of your estate. (IRS limitations apply.)
- A gift of stock is a tax-wise way to support BC. You may be able to deduct the full fair market value and avoid paying capital gains tax.
- A charitable gift annuity with BC provides you with tax benefits and a secure income stream for life.
- If you’re 70 1⁄2 or older, you can make a gift from your IRA. The distribution is not subject to income tax and can count toward your required minimum distribution. Under recent legislation, you can also use a tax-free qualified charitable distribution to establish a CGA.
